My Treasured Past

When I was little, I knew there was a reason why I was a tomboy. It was so that I would collect baseball cards and then eventually pass them down to whatever future son or tomboy daughter I had. Even when I was little, I knew and wanted to pass my collection down.

The photos above show my baseball card collection and the beautiful, wonderful handmade wooden case my father built for my collection when I was about 10 years old. Today, while at my parents’ house, I came across it and immediately remembered that I had always wanted to give it to one of my children. Luckily for me, I do have a son. The best of it all is that it is a memento of my father and myself.

I dug it out of their garage, Pledge’d it up (mmm lemony clean) and was thrilled to see how well it has held up over the last 14 or so years and how in perfect, mint condition the cards still are.

Now, if my next child is a girl, maybe she will get the diamond earrings I always wear that my mother gave me when I was much younger… who knows?
