Out With the Old…

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry, Car, Clothing, Friends, Holiday, Sean, Website | Monday 22 December 2008 6:15 pm

2008 is closing to an end and it seems like it’s gone by so quickly. It seems like yesterday that Chris and I sold our house and trekked our way 700 miles with an infant to live in Cincinnati but it’s been over 8 months and 3 seasons later. Where has the time gone? Well, I can’t complain too much, most of 2008 has been great to us and I look forward to 2009.

In 2008, we started the year off with selling our house and moving to my hometown and both starting new, great jobs. I am thankful that we’re now close enough for my mother to watch Sean during the day while we work. Over the course of the twelve months, Sean has begun sitting up, crawling and now walking and saying a few words and so many more other milestones. I look forward to the milestones to come. By the time 2009 comes, he will be 13 months and 20 days. He’s growing so quickly.

I got my new car this year and also had a semi cause an accident that I was involved in, but my car is fine anyways. Gotta take the bad with the good it seems. Sold our house in 2008 and will be buying/building a new one in 2009. Reconnected with old friends and lost touch with some others. Went from the BlackBerry Pearl to the BlackBerry Curve and plan to head to the BlackBerry Bold in ‘09.

There’s one thing I know won’t change no matter what year it is and that’s being married to my wonderful husband. 2008 was a great year for Chris and I. We celebrated our one year anniversary, grew as a couple and a family and have realized more than ever how much in love we truly are. I love him no matter what and can’t wait to see what life is like in 2089 with him.

So, the plans for 2009 so far is to buy a new home. A permanent home. I am so done with moving and would like to never have it as an option unless we make it an option. I’d also like to do some traveling once we do get comfortable in the new year and new home. Ultimately, I want to take Sean to Florida to see his other side of the family and go to Disney World. I’d like to travel to other places I still haven’t had the chance to go to. I’ve been to many places but there are still that I have yet to see and would love to share that with my family.

My website has grown quite a bit in 2008. I get a ton of visitors and new subscribers all the time. The traffic to my site has increased immensely throughout the year and I plan for it to only get better. I’ll be adding some new things and maybe changing some current things. It’s always a work in progress.

Overall, the year has been great and I can only imagine that things will be getting better. I am enjoying the new chapter in our lives and can’t wait to see what happens in the next chapter.

Perhaps another child? We’ll see, I’m still up in the air on if I want to have other kids whether now or later or at all.

Sync Your BlackBerry With iTunes!

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry | Sunday 7 December 2008 1:01 pm

As I was wandering around the BlackBerry website to see what may be new, I came across this gem. Who needs an iPhone when you can easily sync your BlackBerry to iTunes just as easily as you can with an iPod or iPhone with BlackBerry Media Sync?

Select the playlist(s) you want to sync to your BlackBerry.

Depending on how many songs you’re syncing, you can wait for what seems to be an eternity for it to sync, then you’ve got your playlists on your phone!

It’s great software, easy to use, but the synchronization time is far too slow. If RIM could find a way to speed it up, then I’d have no complaints about it!

Vanilla-Milkshake goes Mobile

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry | Friday 14 November 2008 5:26 pm

Why not go a little mobile? Why not target some BlackBerry users? There isn’t a reason why not, that’s why! In case you haven’t heard through Twitter, I have created a BlackBerry Applications page on my site that is both viewable and accessible through my site and through the browser on your BlackBerry!

In no way have I created any of the apps, at least, not yet! I am simply giving you a simple webpage to bookmark on your phone to download new and popular applications for your ‘Berry! I am just re-distributing the links in the easiest way I know how!

So grab your BlackBerry, bring up your browser, press the menu button, click ‘go to’ and type in http://www.vanilla-milkshake.com/blackberryapplications.php and be sure to bookmark it to avoid having to type it in later! ;-)

Also, if you know of an App that you think should be on there, PLEASE let me know and I will add it as soon as possible!

It’s about time there’s a BlackBerry MySpace App

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry, myspace | Thursday 13 November 2008 2:47 pm

I have been waiting soooo long for there to be a MySpace Application for my BlackBerry whether it was third party or not.

This morning, while I was sleeping after having a rough night of being sick, I received an email from my friend Hannah on my BlackBerry with a link to download the OTA MySpace Application. Since I read it, kind of in my sleep, I thought it was a dream. Then when I got up for real, I remembered it and re-read my email and it was true! Yay! A MySpace App for my BB!

It is set up very much like the Facebook Application.

This is a screenshot from my ‘Berry of what someone’s profile would look like through the MySpace Application. It’s really simple and to the point. Easy to navigate.

Viewing someone’s photos is cake with being able to still view photos as an album rather than all of the pictures crammed onto one page.

The Home Screen allows you to update your status and mood and shows the most recent status’ and moods of your friends. With the icons across the top you can view your inbox, add a friend, view your comments, view your friends list and upload a picture.

Of all the great things the App provides, I think being able to FINALLY upload mobile photos is my favorite! I have been waiting for this specific feature for an extremely long time!

Last but not least, you can take those annoying and pointless bulletins your friends post way too often everywhere with you! Oh joy!

The only con I have come across is that you don’t receive any notifications when you get new messages, friend requests, comment, etc. Maybe they will implement something like that later on! I sure hope so!

You can go to the MySpace BlackBerry Application page here. To have an OTA link sent to your BlackBerry email so that you can download it, go here. You will need to type in your name and BlackBerry email address and then you will receive an email with a link to download the App directly to your ‘Berry!

Enjoy!

A Blackberry Flip Phone?

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry | Sunday 21 September 2008 11:09 am

Before I became a Blackberry addict, I always had and loved flip phones and I still do, but a Blackberry is one phone that should never be a flip phone or a slider.

I am disappointed in the design and style of this new Pearl. This marks the first ever flip Blackberry and it gets 2 thumbs down from me.

What are you doing RIM? You’re taking away one of the signatures of Blackberries! The old school candybar design with the new school technology.

Ugh!

Feedback please!

eBaying My Way To An iPhone

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry, Updates, iPhone | Sunday 21 September 2008 9:52 am

So I’ve done it. I’ve listed my former BlackBerry, the 8100 Pearl on eBay. Because I am still iffy on buying an iPhone, I have decided not to invest actual money into it, but to sell my old Blackberry on eBay in hopes to sell it for the amount of an iPhone so that if it doesn’t work out between the iPhone and I, then at least I haven’t lost anything.

As you should know by now, a previous entry has gone through the contemplations of jumping on the iPhone bandwagon and giving up my wonderful Blackberry. Well, why not have both? This is my way of giving the iPhone a trial while keeping my Blackberry as a backup. The only thing I need to do is change my data plan and put my SIM card into whichever phone. It’s quite simple.

Should I do it? Should I go to the Mac side and get an iPhone? Let me know!

By the way, if you’re possibly interested in buying my Blackberry Pearl, let me know and I will send you the link to my eBay auction or do some under the table business with you!

This blog is in response to a blog posted by Justine at TastyBlogSnack.com.

So here you are, these are my BlackBerry apps! Enjoy because I consider a person’s cell phone a very private thing and you’re all getting a look into something private of mine.

To iPhone or not to iPhone

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry, iPhone | Monday 21 July 2008 12:21 pm

When the original iPhone came out in June of 2007 I happened to work for AT&T on iDay and was very pregnant, mind you. I thought the iPhone was great, but with being an “insider” with the company I just knew it wasn’t worth the money since it wasn’t a 3G device. From the time I heard of the iPhone I always said, “I’m not going to get it until it goes 3G.”. Well, now it’s 3G and over the last year I have gotten more than comfortable and loyal to Blackberry and now that I’ve had all that time to fall head over heels first for my Pearl and now my Curve, they now decide to release a much better iPhone… that’s 3G.

Of course! So now I have been going back and forth between wanting an iPhone and trying to be loyal to my BlackBerry. The only thing really keeping me from wanting the iPhone seems to be a huge thing. I don’t particularly like touchscreen and that is what the iPhone is. Not just partly, but completely touchscreen.

So, as of a few days ago, I think I have decided to go to the Mac side. I could always just buy it, use it, and if I don’t like it, pay the restocking fee associated with returning it.

I’ll keep you updated on my internal debate.

Life Blood

Posted by Carla | BlackBerry | Monday 14 July 2008 7:19 pm

If you know me outside of the internets, you know that I have my Crimson BlackBerry Curve almost permanently attached to my hand and that I wouldn’t dream to have it more than 10 feet away from myself at any given moment and that on occasion I make sweet love to it and light up a cig afterwards.

Ok, well, maybe some of that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but most of it’s true.

When I got my first BlackBerry I can say I honestly wasn’t impressed. I mean, it was a great phone but my first was a Pearl 8100. It grew on me, to say the least. And then, almost a year later, I shelled out almost $500.00 for the Curve that I have now and the flames of my love afair reignited.

Things like twitter, flickr and facebook keep me coming back for more. Not to mention that I keep everything from song lists, music, MP3’s and pictures to shopping lists, dates, videos and email on it. It’s easy to say that not only because it’s blood red in color but also because I have practically everything important to me on it that my husband calls it my life blood.

Because I love meeting new BlackBerry addicts, I am going to post a list of some of my favorite apps.

I am always looking for new applications! Anything I can add to my addictions and make my ‘Berry that much more custom. If anyone else has an app that should be on this list, please, by all means let me know. I might throw a kudos your way!
