Happy Halloween!

As I am sure you all know, today is Friday… oh and it’s also Halloween! Of course, since it is also Friday, I am at work. So that means lots of crazy people in lots of crazy costumes! Here are a few of my favorites!

Myself dressed as a Greek Goddess!

Todd the bull rider!

Laura, the naughy school girl and Zac, a vow of celibacy!

Chris as a Pirate. Believe it or not, that’s actually my hat and eye patch!

Nancy as Madonna/80’s mall girl!

Zach about to embark on a glorious expedition!

Dan dressed as Brett Michaels! NOT Hannah Montana!

Karly is so totally Alice in Wonderland!

All photos were taken by our resident graphic designer, Javier Santiago! I love Halloween! Tonight will be Sean’s first night trick or treating! I am so excited! I

Pajama Day

Posted by Carla | Work | Monday 27 October 2008 4:25 pm

Today is Pajama Day at work which marks the first themed day of the week. Tomorrow is multi-cultural day, Wednesday is Tailgate Day, Thursday is Wellness Day and Friday is obviously Halloween.

I came adorned in my best PJ’s featuring the Superfriends on my pants and Marvel comic heroes on my shirt! Such a huge hit! We had a very nice catered breakfast this morning and the rest of the week some tasty catered lunch. Yum!

I am quite comfortable, if I might say so myself. Did I mention I have the best job ever?

That Bastard Hurricane Ike!

Posted by Carla | Work | Wednesday 17 September 2008 2:10 pm

It’s been quite a while since I last blogged and for good reason. Starting off, I’m sure everyone is aware of Hurricane Ike, that bastard! Who would have ever thought it would blow 75 mph winds as far north as Cincinnati, Ohio?

I was at work when they started and I must admit, I was extremely excited and in awe. I love storms and I love some excitement from time to time, especially if I’m at work.

While at work, we experienced winds up to 75 mph and a tree right in front of our office had split in half like a toothpick. It sounded like that at some point the roof above my desk was either going to fly off or cave in from a tree falling on it.

Back home, where my husband had the day off and was with our son and my family, he kept sending me pictures of some of the pandemonium happening there. Trees have been falling over and blocking roads all over the place. Gutters and rain pipes were being blown off of houses and buildings, etc.

Needless to say, I, everyone I know and all my co-workers are fine and from what I know, haven’t had any damage to our homes or cars.

As a result of the hurricane, we were left without power for over 24 hours at home [causing my milk to go bad and also had no internet] and work, but luckily, at work, we have generators.

At one point, up to 680,000 people in the Greater Cincinnati area were without power. It was expected to be out for some people for up to 4 days. Luckily for us, we got ours back in 24 hours, but I do know of some people whom are still without power.

There were reports of trees falling on cars with people inside, another report of a tree falling on a woman’s house and taking her life. Our wooden fence in our neighborhood is broken from trees falling on it and blown over in numerous parts.

The following day, Monday, I came into work to discover that we had absolutely no phone lines, no servers, no internet, etc. Which is a large part of my job as far as communication goes. Because we had none of that we spent the entire day, all 8 hours playing cards, playing spoons, outside behind the building playing football, volleyball, soccer and frisbee. All in all, it was a pretty awesome day!

Tuesday, when I went into work again, we still had no phones, internet, etc. and we were pretty much having a repeat of Monday Funday with the exception of being much more discreet due to business visitors being in the office from Vancouver. Before the close of the work day, everything came back up and went back to normal.

Today is my day off, so tomorrow I shall experience another, normal work day!

Here are some photos from the last few days:

Picture my husband sent me as he was trying to leave my parents’ house.

I took this photo on my way to my parents’ house to see my son and husband where we ended up making meatloaf on the grill. It was damn tasty too!

At work, outside behind the building playing various games of ball or frisbee.

Matt and Tom removing the tree that was split like a toothpick.

The office building sign was torn off like it was nothing, but it’s a 1/4 sheet metal.

Zombie Outbreak! BRAIIINS!

Posted by Carla | Work, Zombies | Tuesday 9 September 2008 3:41 pm

I love zombies! I have no idea why, but if you’ve read my previous post about zombies where I took a zombie survival quiz, I mentioned that, to me, a zombie invasion is the ultimate in survival scenario!

I got the itch last night to take a photo and transform myself into a zombie, or what I believe what I would look like as a zombie. Once I did this and people started seeing it, it seemed that there was an outbreak of people I work with wanting to be zombies too. How appropriate.

Here are some zombies I work with:

I can’t wait for Halloween. Anyone think I should be a zombie?

Lunch break from hades!

Posted by Carla | Work | Thursday 28 August 2008 2:27 pm

I have been looking forward to my lunch all day because I didn’t bring any snacks or anything for the morning and was very hungry. I had Subway on the brain all morning and how much I wanted a $5.00 footlooooong with ham, cheese, etc. I was practically salivating by the time my lunch hour began.

I left the office and headed to my car and saw, which isn’t out of the norm, traffic backed all the way back to our office from road work on an extremely small area that has been taking place since April of this year. Being the smart person I am, I was like, “F this traffic!” so I got in my car and looked up the closest Subway on my GPS that wasn’t that way. Luckily there was one very close, so I set my destination and went on my merry way.

As soon as I make a right on the street my glorious Subway footloooong was, I knew I was that much closer. And then, it happened, a train decided to block my way point between me and my scrumptious sub sandwich!

This train, to be exact.

I sat there trying to be patient thinking that if I turned around it would end up being gone just seconds later, thus screwing myself over. I wait and waited. 10 minutes had passed and I was seriously thinking about going to the other one I would normally go to, but I realized not only do I have to drive back that way but then I would have to sit in THAT traffic too! Fifteen minutes had passed and finally, the train was moving, such a tease, it stopped. Again it started to move and this time it was gone about 2 minutes later.

I was able to proceed further to my destination when my GPS says, “In ABOUT a mile you will have reached your destination!”. About?! Because of that huge ‘about’ I was not able to locate Subway nor have my footlong. It was then that I remembered how ridiculously expensive gas is and decided to stop at the first (and only) food place I could even see. Wendy’s! Ugh! Definitely not what I wanted and definitely not good for my diet. I was unhappy, let down and disappointed to say the least.

And that, my friends, is my lunch from Hades!

Being a loser

Posted by Carla | Health & Beauty, Work | Saturday 9 August 2008 2:10 pm

I hope to be a huge loser. Not in the way you’re thinking either. I hope to lose some weight. Well, a lot of weight, I should say. Having a baby can do some crazy things to your body. Working in an office can also do crazy things to your body. Sitting at a desk for a large part of the day and with the exceptionally cheap prices of drinks and snacks in the vending machine can be a bad thing — drinks are .25 and snacks are .50. You can’t beat that!

So, after checking my email the other day at work, I was made aware of an office wide contest for the “biggest loser”. I guess everyone is going to get together and try to lose weight. Sounds kind of silly, but why not? I mean, I need some good motivation and the possibility of winning prizes for losing weight, looking better, feeling better and living a healthier lifestyle is definitely worth it and worth trying to win a prize for.

I’ve been needing some type of motivation to lose weight since Sean’s been born and I even thought I needed my husband to help me with that motivation, but thinking about it right now, I think he might be the worst person to help motivate me because I am just far too comfortable with him. Strangely enough, we have a lot of gym rats and health gurus at my work. We have a fighter that owns a gym, a few personal trainers and a bunch of health freaks. I am quite surprised, but no so surprised because they’re all men. We women are lazy!

I can’t remember the exact details, but there is a weigh in coming up for this and I plan to go forth with it and try to lose as much weight as possible. I will keep you updated via my blog, so any words of encouragement would be really great!

Good luck to me!

Rick Rolling with Tom Jones

It’s Sunday! I’m at work. It’s not a busy day. We’re bored. What do we decide to do?

Good times! I love my job and co-workers.

That’s Ben and Matt featured in my video. Never a dull moment in the cubicals behind me, that’s for sure.

Early Morning Crime : The mystery solved

Posted by Carla | Work | Friday 18 July 2008 2:41 pm

Follow Up:

The crime has been solved! It is not a crime at all, actually. In fact, I’m glad of what happened. It turns out that after I left work, the roof started leaking. So, Laura, whom sits in front of me, moved some of my photos to prevent them from getting ruined. Bless her heart. I feel much better now!

I feel bad for jumping to conclusions and thinking the worst, but if I remember correctly, and I know I do since I just re-read my last blog, but I did chalk it up to an accident.

I’m glad Laura moved them and realized how upset I would have been if they had gotten ruined. Thanks! :-)

Early Morning Crime Scene

Posted by Carla | Work | Friday 18 July 2008 8:20 am

I got up for work as I do every morning, got ready, kissed husband and son goodbye, made a sammich, hopped in the Mazda and went on my merry way. Everything was as normal as I was driving to work in medium traffic listening to Dropkick Murphy’s in my car. I arrive at work, get a great parking spot, gather my laptop and purse and proceed into the building. Little to my surprise did I walk in to see some things on my desk moved around which wouldn’t normally bother me because people play pranks on others here all the time. It wasn’t until I looked to the left side of my desk that I noticed some things that were hanging on my wall, pictures of my son, to be exact, were no longer hanging where they should have been.

I have a sense of humor and appreciate a good joke and having some fun, but once someone disrespects me and my son to the point where his photos are no longer where they should be, that’s where I draw the line. I sat and pondered the what, who and why. After much thought, I calmed down because I am sure it was an accident of some sort. Perhaps the cleaning people at night were being a little less than careful when removing my trash. Perhaps some co-workers were horsing around as they normally do and the armadillo ball hit some of the most important things to me on my desk. Who knows? But, I am, at this point, chalking it up as an accident based on the evidence at the scene of the crime.

I just had to let it out. Thanks for listening. LoL.
