It’s been quite a while since I last blogged and for good reason. Starting off, I’m sure everyone is aware of Hurricane Ike, that bastard! Who would have ever thought it would blow 75 mph winds as far north as Cincinnati, Ohio?
I was at work when they started and I must admit, I was extremely excited and in awe. I love storms and I love some excitement from time to time, especially if I’m at work.
While at work, we experienced winds up to 75 mph and a tree right in front of our office had split in half like a toothpick. It sounded like that at some point the roof above my desk was either going to fly off or cave in from a tree falling on it.
Back home, where my husband had the day off and was with our son and my family, he kept sending me pictures of some of the pandemonium happening there. Trees have been falling over and blocking roads all over the place. Gutters and rain pipes were being blown off of houses and buildings, etc.
Needless to say, I, everyone I know and all my co-workers are fine and from what I know, haven’t had any damage to our homes or cars.
As a result of the hurricane, we were left without power for over 24 hours at home [causing my milk to go bad and also had no internet] and work, but luckily, at work, we have generators.
At one point, up to 680,000 people in the Greater Cincinnati area were without power. It was expected to be out for some people for up to 4 days. Luckily for us, we got ours back in 24 hours, but I do know of some people whom are still without power.
There were reports of trees falling on cars with people inside, another report of a tree falling on a woman’s house and taking her life. Our wooden fence in our neighborhood is broken from trees falling on it and blown over in numerous parts.
The following day, Monday, I came into work to discover that we had absolutely no phone lines, no servers, no internet, etc. Which is a large part of my job as far as communication goes. Because we had none of that we spent the entire day, all 8 hours playing cards, playing spoons, outside behind the building playing football, volleyball, soccer and frisbee. All in all, it was a pretty awesome day!
Tuesday, when I went into work again, we still had no phones, internet, etc. and we were pretty much having a repeat of Monday Funday with the exception of being much more discreet due to business visitors being in the office from Vancouver. Before the close of the work day, everything came back up and went back to normal.
Today is my day off, so tomorrow I shall experience another, normal work day!
Here are some photos from the last few days:

Picture my husband sent me as he was trying to leave my parents’ house.

I took this photo on my way to my parents’ house to see my son and husband where we ended up making meatloaf on the grill. It was damn tasty too!

At work, outside behind the building playing various games of ball or frisbee.

Matt and Tom removing the tree that had been broken like a toothpick.

The office building sign was torn off like it was nothing, but it’s a 1/4 sheet metal.
